There are at least 100 things every professional truck driver on the roadways wish you knew. Today, we share the top 3 with you.
Trucking is the engine that keeps America's goods moving around our nation and the continent. Your safety, the safety of the goods you enjoy, and our professional driver's safety is of the utmost importance to all of us. In case you have never had a chance to get the real scoop on the challenges and joys of driving a BIG TRUCK, here is your inside look.
Yes, you would be amazed to know just how many drivers on the roadways are looking down at their phones. We've all seen the commercials and the billboards reminding us how unsafe it is text and drive. Let's work together to keep our eyes on the road when traveling. This is important for commercial and personal drivers alike.
2. WE CANNOT SEE YOU...IN THE BLIND SPOTSThere are many types of trailers pulled by professional drivers, tankers, dry vans, reefers, car haulers, and more. You've probably seen the stickers on the back of the trailers called dry vans that say "if you can't see my mirrors, then I can't see you." This is a reminder to the average driver that there are many blind spots for commercial vehicles. Remember the last time you rented a U-Haul? Now times the blind spots by 3. Please give space to commercial vehicles and pass with room.
3. WE CAN SEE YOU...STEALING OUR PARKING SPOTSCommercial transportation is federally regulated. Drivers are limited in the number of hours they can drive and the amount of breaks they need to take during the day. When RVs and motor homes use spaces designated for commercial vehicles at the truck stops and rest areas, this means many drivers have to park in areas not designated for them. The result is often less rest, a ticket or fine, or even missing a meal if the parking the driver finds is not close to a safe place to park for food. We know you care about the nation's commercial drivers. Thank you for leaving for room for us.
Safety, yours and ours, is our top priority at Momentum Transportation. To learn more about blinds spots, check out Truck’s Eye View Program hosted in 2011. When we work together, we can see life from other point's of view, literally.
